Vermont is giving illegal immigrants the right to vote. Even a single vote from an illegal immigrant constitutes foreign interference in domestic elections. To be more specific, the Vermont cities of Burlington, Montpelier and Winooski allow illegal aliens to vote.
Burlington is the largest city in the state. Concerned citizens are worried that allowing illegal aliens to vote on school board elections and also on city education budgets will warp outcomes. Though some illegal aliens have kids enrolled in the city school systems, others do not.
This is a matter of right versus wrong. Foreigners who have not gone through the proper legal channels to obtain United States citizenship should not have the power to decide local elections or federal elections. The nation and many cities are evenly split down the middle, 50/50 between Republicans and Democrats.
A single vote has the potential to cause the power pendulum to swing firmly to the political right or left.
The RNC is Taking Legal Action to Right Vermont’s Wrong
The Republican National Committee filed a lawsuit that aims to guarantee only those who can prove their citizenship can vote in Vermont elections. The RNC will go head-to-head with lawyers representing Burlington in a court of law. Burlington lawmakers approve the change to the city charter in the spring of 2023, meaning the law allowing illegals to vote is fairly new.
Phil Scott, the Republican Governor of Vermont subsequently vetoed the state’s approval of the charter change. However, the veto of the measure was later defeated by the state legislature.
If you are stunned that Vermont lawmakers decided to legally empower non-taxpayers from distant lands to vote in local elections, you are not alone. The entire RNC is on your side and prepared to take the matter to court.
The RNC’s argument is that it is illogical and inherently unfair for those who are not legally allowed to live and work in the United States to determine which lawmakers are elected. Moreover, local elections are also important as they shape the state’s education budget and the composition of municipal government.
The RNC will also argue that allowing illegal aliens to vote at the municipal level directly conflicts with the Vermont state constitution. Vermont’s constitution contains a requirement that mandates only citizens are allowed to vote on issues that affect the state.
"Americans should decide American elections. Democrats' persistent efforts to enable noncitizen voting dilute the voices of Americans in Vermont and across the country," - Michael Whatley, Republican National Committee Chairman
Whatley also noted how the political left’s ongoing efforts to empower noncitizens to cast votes is alarming. The Democrats’ Vermont voter registration misstep is the latest in a series of borderline comical errors ranging from a leaky southern border to rampant inflation and a failure to pass meaningful housing reform legislation.
Vermont Needs a Logical Approach to Elections
Vermont, most famous for its Democratic Socialist Congressional representative in Bernie Sanders, has veered too far to the political left. Sanders served as Burlington’s mayor between 1981 and 1989.
If Vermont lawmakers were justice-oriented, they would require all voters to present proof of citizenship before voting. The display of a valid diver’s license and/or Social Security card should be necessary to vote in local and federal elections.
Vermont should take a cue from Florida and Alabama. Voters in the two politically red states approved amendments to the state constitution in 2020 that required voters to prove citizenship prior to casting votes.
Fox News’ Attempt for Clarification on Vermont’s Noncitizen Voting
Fox News Digital’s investigative team contacted the city of Burlington about noncitizens voting in local elections. However, city of Burlington representatives refused to provide comment. It is clear that Vermont government communication officials prefer that the divisive noncitizen voter issue be swept under the rug.
Though the mainstream media has largely ignored the voting controversy brewing in Vermont, Fox News and other fair and unbiased outlets are embracing it. The Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections lawsuit has the potential to successfully overturn Vermont cities’ provisions that empower noncitizens to vote.
True patriots who genuinely care about restricting voting to taxpaying citizens are encouraged to tune into Fox for updates on the aforementioned lawsuit. Though it might take several months or longer for the case to reach a conclusion, it is worth monitoring.
Stay tuned. If justice is served, all American cities will be forced to limit voting to those who provide proof of citizenship and residency.
